Day 5

Romans 6:6-7 (ESV)

[6] We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. [7] For one who has died has been set free from sin.

Freedom from Sin's Mastery

Death breaks all legal obligations. When someone dies, debts are forgiven and contracts become void. Paul applies this principle to our relationship with sin. Because we've died with Christ, sin no longer has legal authority over us. We've been permanently freed from sin's dominion. Our "old self was crucified with him" so that sin's controlling power would be broken. This doesn't mean we won't face temptation, but sin is no longer our master. Before salvation, we were slaves with no ability to resist sin's pull. Now we have genuine choice. Understanding freedom from sin's dominion is crucial for healthy Christian living. We don't serve God from constant defeat and discouragement. We serve from victory, knowing sin's power over us was broken at the cross. This freedom empowers pursuit of holiness from joy, not fear. We're free to become who God created us to be, unhindered by sin's destructive influence. Every day we can choose to walk in freedom rather than returning to old patterns of bondage.

Key Takeaway

Sin no longer has controlling power over you—you are free to choose righteousness and live in victory.
